Chris and Gill's Story

Chris and Gill have been Fostering for Knowsley for over 20 years. The couple have cared for children of all ages and backgrounds ranging from Emergency Care, Respite, Short Term, Long Term and more recently looking after children with additional needs.

Gill said ‘fostering children with disabilities can be off putting to a lot of people but it’s not as hard as it sounds. We have a great time together as a family and enjoy every minute we spend with the children. We go on holiday abroad, to the caravan and are always enjoying fun days out. All the children need is some stability, encouragement and to know they’re loved. The best feeling in the world is seeing a child who doctors said couldn’t accomplish something doing it for the first time.’

From the moment you meet Chris and Gill you can immediately feel how extremely kind, warm hearted and nurturing individuals they are who always go the extra mile for a child whenever they can. The couple have devoted years of their time, energy and love to ensure that the children placed with them have thrived and reached their full potential whilst in their care.

Despite the difficulties they have faced at times they both remain dedicated to their roles as Foster Carer’s which is extremely admirable. Chris explains ‘When you care for children with disabilities you learn everything about their condition, the training is all available from the hospital to help you with that child and their condition, sometimes that’s what can be scary that you won’t know what to do but all of the training is there and it’s really not as scary as it all sounds. I would always recommend that if anyone is thinking about fostering a child with a disability to start with respite and you’ll soon realise the difference you can make. We love the children we care for and wouldn’t change it for the world’.
